NEW PLAYERS ALWAYS VERY WELCOME
Players (young or older than young) are always welcome even if you have not played for a while!
We appreciate that family or other commitments may mean that you cannot turn out for every game. No worries, you would still be very welcome. You may surprise yourself and want to play more often!
Interested? Please contact Peter Dembrey on 0770 99 46 880 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
The services of a regular scorer would be very welcome - interested? If you need to learn or need a refresher on scoring, we will train you if you are interested...reward: free tea!!
The photographs below are early 'editions' of Chailey Cricket Club.
The photo bottom left was kindly donated by Derek Bird whose family used to reside at Alwyn, Station Road, North Chailey. It was taken in 1910 in front of the old pavilion, later the score hut at Row Heath. Sadly, along with its replacement it has long since been demolished - a casualty of the 1987 storm.
The one bottom middle is circa 1920. This was emailed to us by Mike Gilbert whose father (Percy) used to play for Chailey Cricket Club and who later became a life member of the club. It is believed that in the 1910 photo Percy is the player sitting with pads on and in the c1920 photo is holding the ball - sitting on the extreme right of the second row from the front.
The photograph bottom right is one taken in May 1938 which will, with many of our photos, go back on display in our pavilion following completion of its refurbishment.
Know different? or able to identify any of other players in these photos - may be one of your relatives, or a former neighbour. Do you know any of the other players in any of the other historical photos? - we would love to hear from you.
The photo middle left, slightly more up to date, was taken after our game against Forest Row on 30 August 1997. It was our day as witnessed by the clock in the background which reads 3.40pm. Our bowlers [Nick Heater 5 for 12 in 11 overs and Shaun Barlow 5 for 12 in 11.2 overs] skittled the opposition out for 32 (22.2 overs). The deficit was cleared, without loss, in 11.2 overs. Some days you win others not so.
If, like Derek and Mike, you have photographs of recent or past Chailey teams that are not in our gallery (see website), we would love to borrow them to add them to our collection. Please contact Mike Beard on 0790 484 2128 or email@example.com
